When in Ubuntu/Mint/gOS/etc... while updating the additional third-party drivers, I got some error saying
"SystemError: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock"
Well, if you're also getting the same problem again and again, then here's the solution I've found:
> Resart the application/OS if necessary.
if not solved, then
> Open Terminal
> type: sudo rm /var/cache/
> Press Enter
it solved my problem. Hopefully, it will solve yours, also..
